Illinois 169 Licensed Nail Technician
In order to qualify to take the Pre-Graduation License Nail Technician Examination you are required to provide an Official Preliminary Transcript issued by your school showing proof of completing a minimum of 280 hours of training.
Computerized exam scheduled through PSI following the directions given in PSI Email.

- All retake candidates must wait 30 days before reapplying.
- Any applications received before that date will be treated as correspondence only.
- All candidates will be contacted by email when Approval to Test (ATT) is determined.
- You have 60 days from the date of the email to schedule and take your exam.
- If you do not complete your examination within 60 days, your fee is forfeit.
- If you must change or cancel your test date, you must notify PSI within two (2) business days.

NOTE ALL APPLICATIONS ARE VALID FOR A PERIOD OF THREE (3) YEARS. YOU MUST COMPLETE A FULL APPLICATION WITH ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION UPON APPLICATION EXPIRATION!
Restoration Applicants:
- This is a dual application process.
- Restoration applicants must apply with the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation before registering for the examination.
- Restoration applicants must be approved by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation before applying to CTS.
- Upon approval by the Department, restoration applicants will be sent the appropriate approval letter to register for the examination with CTS.
- All exam dates must be rescheduled 48 hours prior to original scheduled date.
- All absences forfeit the exam fee.
IMPORTANT – Only the following types of Identification will be accepted for the examination:
- A valid US Driver’s License or State ID issued by one of the 50 states or US Territories.
- A valid Consular Id
- A valid US Passport or Military Active Duty ID
If You do not have one of these forms of ID you will not be allowed to sit for the exam.
